TODAY’S TOP STORIES

🐊 Florida Wants a Bitcoin Rainy-Day Fund

Florida lawmakers have revived a push to put bitcoin on the state’s balance sheet, filing new legislation for the 2026 session that would create a state-run cryptocurrency reserve after a similar effort stalled last year. The plan lets the state’s chief financial officer choose if and when to buy, with audits, reporting, and an advisory committee. Eligibility is capped to assets averaging $500B in market value, effectively only bitcoin. If approved, it could start July 1, 2026. Bitcoin Magazine

🇨🇳 China’s Rich Trade Trophy Condos for BTC Liquidity

China’s wealthy are increasingly eyeing bitcoin as a portable store of value as luxury property in Shenzhen and Shanghai looks illiquid, regulated, and costly to hold. On Weibo and Xiaohongshu, investors compare Shenzhen Bay homes priced around 60 to 66M yuan with BTC, Nvidia stock, and BNB, arguing real estate is illiquid, highly visible, and vulnerable to policy shifts. Some recount steep local price drops and dread big mortgages. Bitcoin is framed less as a moonshot and more as portable, always-on liquidity. Cointelegraph

🇫🇷 French Tax Agent Accused of Snooping on Crypto Holders

Jameson Lopp flagged reports that a French tax agent allegedly abused privileged access to identify cryptocurrency owners and pass targets to an undisclosed third party. The incident renews concerns that personal financial data can be weaponized, especially when wallet-linked information leaks or gets misused. Lopp ties it to broader, ongoing privacy and security risks in the digital asset space, even as Bitcoin’s infrastructure keeps growing more robust and harder to ignore. Trader's Union

QUICK MEDIA

  • Hurley of Swan Bitcoin argues that AI-driven abundance and the technological singularity will strengthen rather than weaken Bitcoin's role as the foundational monetary infrastructure for a deflationary future where scarcity, energy constraints, and sound money become increasingly critical (Jan 9 | 17:39 min watch).

  • Adam Livingston argues that 2026 marks Bitcoin's full institutional absorption as major banks like Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan launch ETFs, custody services, and BTC-backed lending, creating permanent structural demand through wealth management flows, collateral recycling, and regulatory green lights that transform Bitcoin into industrialized monetary infrastructure (Jan 7 | 13:34 min watch).

  • Parker Lewis, author of 'Gradually, Then Suddenly', in a presentation delivered at Old Parkland, explains why BTC remains the greatest asymmetric opportunity, citing fixed supply as the evaluable fulcrum, rising adoption and security, and the negative asymmetry of fiat debasement and QE in the US and beyond (Jan 8 | 43:25 min watch).
