The July 22 CLARITY Act draft created a safe harbor for noncustodial developers and added 25 sections addressing law-enforcement concerns. The provision covers builders who do not control customer assets. Its ethics rules also reached public officials, employees, and spouses.

Why it matters: Bitcoin builders gain a defined protection, but users get no equally explicit privacy boundary. That means no bill is better than a bad bill that expands surveillance. Read more→

CertiK verified 52 wrench attacks in the first half of 2026, with recorded exposure reaching about $124 million. The recorded total covers ransom demands as well as stolen funds because the threat extends beyond completed thefts. Europe accounted for 39 incidents, including 33 recorded cases in France.

Why it matters: Criminals exploit real-world links to Bitcoin holdings when they cannot break the network. That means privacy protects physical safety and makes operational security inseparable from responsible self-custody. Read more→
