Welcome to Issue #638 of the Bitcoin Breakdown daily newsletter, where we’re rounding up the most talked-about developments in the Bitcoin-only space from the past weekend with our Quick Bits and Quick Media sections. But first, today’s Top Stories:

Luke Dashjr has left OCEAN, but its transparent, non-custodial Bitcoin mining pool is carrying on. Core Lightning operators have signed security fix binaries ahead of the source, while Sberbank's token-backed loan plan still needs Russian approval.

Still Holding Bitcoin on One Device?

A multi-key vault with keys spread across devices from different vendors eliminates single points of failure. No single bug, theft, or mistake can touch your bitcoin.

If your setup depends on one device being perfect forever, what is your plan for the day it is not?

Casa's security team is running free consultations to review your setup, show you what a multivendor multisig wallet would look like for you, and help you plan a calm migration, including pairing hardware you already own.

Casa holds your hand, not your keys. The strongest self-custody is the kind with no single point of failure.

⛏️ Luke Dashjr Leaves, OCEAN Keeps Bitcoin Mining

Luke Dashjr has separated from OCEAN after disagreements over Bitcoin mining’s future, resigning as Chairman and CTO, selling his equity and launching a new decentralized mining venture called CONVOY. OCEAN says its transparent, non-custodial Bitcoin mining pool will continue serving miners after his departure, keeping the existing service on the Bitcoin network.

Why it matters: Bitcoin infrastructure should outlast prominent leaders. OCEAN now has a concrete standard to meet by continuing service through the transparent, non-custodial pool it described. Read more→

⚠️ Core Lightning Ships Signed Fix Before Source

Blockstream released signed Core Lightning 26.06.7 binaries for confirmed vulnerabilities and will publish source 14 days later. Operators are advised to upgrade when possible or restart in offline mode if they cannot upgrade yet.

Why it matters: Fast remediation protects Lightning users, while delayed source limits immediate inspection. Signature verification and a firm 14-day publication window keep the security tradeoff explicit. Read more→

🇷🇺 Sberbank Plans Loans Behind a Regulatory Gate

Sberbank plans to add ether and USDT collateral alongside Bitcoin, subject to Bank of Russia approval. The bank ran a Bitcoin-backed pilot with Intelion Data in December 2025, but has announced no launch date or loan terms.

Why it matters: A bank sees utility in Bitcoin collateral while a central bank keeps the permission switch. Borrowing against bitcoin can preserve exposure, but it cannot replace self-custody. Read more→
