Ledger tells CryptoBilis buyers not to set up their devices after an investigator estimates losses above $86M, AnchorWatch CEO Rob Hamilton red teams Bitcoin's elliptic curve and finds no established break, and a phishing post appears on Coldcard's X account. Verify your hardware, your math and your links, because self-custody only works when you hold your own keys.

🚨 Ledger Confirms Implant as Reseller's Buyers Lose Funds

Ledger told customers who bought from Kuala Lumpur reseller CryptoBilis within the last 90 days not to set up their devices, and to move assets to a new signer with a new seed if they already did. Investigator Specter puts losses above $86M, a figure Ledger has not confirmed, and Ledger found an unauthorized hardware implant in one affected device.

Why it matters: A tampered device turns self-custody into trust in a stranger's supply chain, while the reseller who made the sale carries none of the loss. Holding your own keys means buying direct and verifying the hardware that generates your Bitcoin seed. Read more→

From tampered hardware to fears of broken math...

🧮 Rob Hamilton Red Teams Bitcoin's Curve, No Break

A wave of AI-assisted math results set off claims online that Bitcoin's cryptography is next. AnchorWatch CEO Rob Hamilton answered by red-teaming secp256k1, Bitcoin's elliptic curve, in a new article and Magic Internet Math episode. He names the five open math problems an attacker would have to solve first, and finds that none of the proposals has established a break.

Why it matters: Accounts farming AI-assisted math for engagement sell fear, while Hamilton shows a theorem is not an affordable attack on your keys. Bitcoin self-custody depends on verification, and there is no evidence of a break, only open questions worth tracking. Read more→

From open math questions to a Coldcard phishing post...

🎣 Coldcard Probes Phishing Post on Its X Account

Coldcard is investigating how a post containing a phishing link was published from its official X account, which has used offline 2FA since 2017. Coldcard deleted the post, contacted X, is reviewing all account access and says its only official website is coldcard(dot)com.

Why it matters: Even a locked-down account on someone else's platform can push a fake advisory, which means a feed is never a safe place to take orders about your keys. Bitcoin self-custody means you verify the source, skip the link and keep intermediaries out. Read more→
