⚖️ Bitcoin Volatility Falls to 43%, Grayscale Finds

Grayscale Head of Research Zach Pandl found Bitcoin's one-year realized volatility fell to 43%, down from a 10-year average of 64% and 81% five years ago. Bitcoin's volatility is now lower than that of 19% of S&P 500 constituents, and Grayscale credits deeper liquidity, broader institutional participation and more regulated access venues.

Why it matters: The "Bitcoin is too volatile" criticism is weaker than it was, while stocks remain the wrong benchmark for money. Savers fleeing fiat debasement need Bitcoin's volatility far lower still, which means liquidity is the metric to watch. Read more→

From calmer Bitcoin markets to a covenant scaling design...

🌳 Lightning Labs' LayerTree Puts Millions in One UTXO

Lightning Labs CTO and co-founder Olaoluwa Osuntokun unveiled LayerTree, a non-custodial design where a single UTXO holds the balances of millions of users in an off-chain Merkle-sum tree. Any LayerTree member can exit in one transaction at any time, and the operator cannot take anyone's money or stop anyone leaving.

Why it matters: None of LayerTree runs on Bitcoin today, because its scripts use proposed opcodes that Bitcoin has not activated. If Bitcoin adds covenants, self-custody could scale to millions of users without custodians holding their keys. Read more→

From scalable keys to a state fencing them in...

🇷🇺 Russia Bans P2P Bitcoin Trades From July 2027

Russia will ban direct peer-to-peer trades of bitcoin and other digital currencies between individuals from July 1, 2027, forcing residents through authorized intermediaries. Individuals in Russia already cannot transfer digital currency from regulated accounts to their own self-custody wallets, and payments in Bitcoin and crypto for goods and services stay prohibited.

Why it matters: Every route now runs through state-approved gatekeepers, while a private trade between two people leaves no third party able to tell it happened. That is why bitcoin held with your own keys beats permission from the Bank of Russia. Read more→
