Greetings Bitcoiner,
Welcome to Issue #680 of the Bitcoin Breakdown daily newsletter, where we’re rounding up the most talked-about developments in the Bitcoin-only space from the past weekend with our Quick Bits and Quick Media sections. But first, today’s Top Stories:
Anthropic's Claude traced the NSA-supplied NIST curve seeds to an ordinary random-number generator, and Bitcoin's secp256k1 never used them. TD Cowen lifted its Strive target 27% as Strive's holdings hit 35,595 BTC, and Deutsche Bank is weeks from launching bitcoin custody that keeps clients' keys. Verify the math, and hold your own keys.

🧮 Claude Cracks the 25-Year NSA Curve Seed Mystery
Anthropic says an internal Claude model took under half an hour to trace the NSA-supplied seeds of five NIST elliptic curves to the C library's lrand48 random-number generator, seeded with Unix timestamps. Anthropic says that is no cryptographic break and makes a hidden backdoor much less plausible, while Bitcoin uses secp256k1, not a NIST curve.
Why it matters: Bitcoin never relied on these curves, and secp256k1's simple equation leaves no opaque seeds to hide a weakness, so Bitcoin's security assumptions are unchanged. Anyone can verify that curve without trusting a gatekeeper, and the theory that US agencies built Bitcoin keeps losing ground. Read more→

📈 TD Cowen Lifts Strive Target 27% on Bitcoin Buying
TD Cowen raised its Strive (ASST) price target to $56 from $44 after Strive's holdings climbed to 35,595 BTC, the fourth-largest among publicly traded companies, just ahead of MARA. Strive also upsized its SATS preferred offering from 5M to 7M shares at $90 each, seeking about $630M, with proceeds designated primarily for bitcoin.
Why it matters: Upsizing the deal from 5M to 7M shares shows real demand for bitcoin-linked income paper, and several firms competing for that capital makes the bid less dependent on Strategy alone. SATS buyers still hold a claim on Strive, not keys to any bitcoin. Read more→

🇩🇪 Deutsche Bank Readies Bitcoin Custody for Germany
Deutsche Bank, Germany's biggest lender, is weeks away from launching its bitcoin custody service and plans to expand into major Asian financial centers in 2027. The bank manages clients' wallets and private keys, joining BNY Mellon, State Street, Standard Chartered, U.S. Bank and Citigroup in committing to direct custody over the past 18 months.
Why it matters: This is not self-custody, because Deutsche Bank manages clients' private keys, so every coin parked there can be frozen or seized. Banks converging on the same custody product signals institutional demand, while sovereignty still means holding your own keys. Read more→
